Tammy's Corner
He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father,
if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but
as You will.” Matthew 26:39 Have you
ever prayed a prayer like this? We ask the Lord for something,
and believing we're doing the right thing, we tack on "not my will,
but Yours be done." If we don't know the will of God, then I
can see why we might imitate this prayer made by Yeshua on the night
of His betrayal. But let me ask you an honest question:
Did Yeshua *not* know that it was the will of God for Him to go to
the cross? Acts 2:23 says that:
..Him (Yeshua), being delivered by the determined purpose and
foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have
crucified and put to death..
Also in Luke 22:22 Yeshua Himself states:
"And truly the Son of Man goes as it
has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!"
It was God's will for Yeshua to die on the cross. It was
His plan. So we've established that it was God's will, and
we've also seen that Yeshua knew what His Father's plan was.
To see more Word proof of this, let's look at John 5:19:
Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to
you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father
do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner."
And also verse 30:
I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment
is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the
Father who sent Me.
Yeshua heard and knew the will of the Father.
The point is this, when Yeshua was in the garden, He knew what
was about to happen. He had no doubt about that whatsoever.
He could have stood up and walked away but he obeyed His Father's
will and accomplished what He had planned from the foundations of
the earth. Because of His obedience, we are no longer under
the curse of the law and ours is the Blessing! (see Galatians 3:13
and Deuteronomy 28)
Now, back to us and our understanding of God's will. If we
know that the Word says certain things are ours, there is no need
for us to add to the prayer "not my will but Yours be done."
If we know the Word says we are HEALED, then we don't have to wonder
at all that it is His will. If we know the Word says that we
are shielded and protected from the enemy, then we don't have to
have any doubt about His will concerning our safety.
The only time we need to pray "not my will but Yours be done" is
if we are experiencing a struggle in obeying His voice. For
example, let's say He has led you to go to a certain person and
minister to them, but you know that in times past that same person
has reacted almost violently to anything you have ever tried to tell
them about the Lord. Your flesh might immediately go "oh no"
but you know that if He's telling you to go, you'd better get going!
Let's look at something else in the scripture that isn't the same
exact wording as Yeshua in the garden, but in intent is the same
thing:
When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into
the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon
answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and
caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”
And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and
their net was breaking. So they signaled to their
partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and
filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. When Simon
Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart
from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” Luke 5:4-8
"Nevertheless at your word.." Isn't that awesome?
Even if we can't see what He's leading us to do will accomplish, we
can know that if He is leading us, there's a good reason for it and
blessing will follow if we obey!

Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 2 Corinthians 2:14
